Awarded IAMAS Professional Changemaker Award

I was honored recently by the International Association of Maternal Action + Scholarship (IAMAS) with a MOMA (making opportunities for mothers in academia) award. As this year's recipient of the Professional Changemaker Award, I'm honored to stand among other scholars who have researched and advocated for the wellbeing of student parents.
Through my work supporting families at Texas Woman's University and my most recent book, Parenting While PhDing, I've met so many student parents and academic parents whose stories have made an impact on me. I believe that narratives can empower and change lives, and I'm honored to work on a campus where families are valued and cared for, and where such research matters deeply -- so much so that it remains an "enduring initiative" in our strategic plan.
So three cheers to the student parents, to organizations like IAMAS, and to campuses like TWU. What a blessing it is to see another year of life and to feel supported in doing work that matters.
